Installing A Standalone Wire Harness In A Classic Porsche 911

Adding a Cam Synch Sensor for Sequential Fuel and Spark - Vintage 911
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.2 месяца назад
Adding a cam synch sensor is important to run sequential fuel and spark. This gives several advantages including better fuel economy, more power, and longer coil/injector life. The original Motronic EFI is batch fired which means fuel squirts into each bank all at once whether the valve is open or closed. On the ignition side of things the engine now has 6 coils instead of one, so they have ple...

    Wonderful to see such a solid example of the 85 Mk II Supra. Loved mine dearly as my daily driver back in the day. Was great to hear you mention how practical the rear hatchback area is. I used to bring my mountain bike along without even having to remove the front tire. One feature I miss to this day was that power sunroof. My later Mk III Supra had a Targa top, but I hardly ever bothered with it. Whereas the power sunroof of the MK II got a lot of use and never leaked. Overall such a strikingly good looking car. Aggressive in an angular way we don't see anymore. Plus the fun of those pop up headlights, which always sounded amazing when they deployed. Other great MK II features: the full size spare and the engine bay work light.

      All great things you mention about the Supra! The hatch is so practical for trips to home depot, etc. I have a small pad that fits over the center console and I can stick things out the back. The hatch actually has tie downs unlike new cars. It's dangerous for long distances, but for a 3 mile haul it's great. The fuel injection and engine in this car is so good. I'm really loving it.

    Kudos to you for going back and forth between these two manuals. I think you understate how different the Porsche pedals feel. I borrowed my friend's '76 911 a few years back, and stalled it so much until I got used to the pedal setup. Question: I have a 1999 996 with a M97 3.8l 2007 model engine running on a 996 ECU. The performance is inadequate on rpm and top speed and I am interested to see if its possible to upgrade the ECU or a standalone computer plus wiring harness as an alternative to replacing the engine to the original M96 engine (I have one on hand). Which is the easier route. Replacing the engine will cost about 10k, but I can sell the M97 engine for about the same price. Do you have any input to the best option?

    • @GarageTimeAutoResto
      @GarageTimeAutoResto 13 дней назад

      My guess is the newer engine needs a better tune before it damages itself. A standalone ECU will allow someone to get the maximum performance out of that engine. Do you have to pass emissions test? If so then the original engine might be the only option?

    I have the SS5. The on/off switch is way under engineered. Feels flimsy, is flimsy. The switch welds itself together, won't shut off, and blows the pressure valve; then the compressor has to be shut off at the power source. I have this compressor for airing up tires; light usage. Don't buy.

    I had 205,000 pleasant miles out of my '84 Supra until a clown drove into it. Apart from routine maintenance, it needed an alternator, wiper motor and a fuel pump. Try that in a 911 and it would require a lot of expensive repairs. PS the E36 M3 that replaced it was faster and better handling, but a lot of failures and a lot of money to keep on the road.

    Awesome job, as usual. I am in the process of restoring my original 1963 356B T6. I took lots of pics and videos when I disassembled, and practiced reassembling, the seat hinges. The only other video I could find online that demonstrates re-assembly is this one: ruclips.net/video/--YyzE7vfV8/видео.htmlsi=pt5fLu2SpmSq-Fsi Of note, instead of having to make a special tool to install the large spring, Mike simply used a Vise-Grip pliers. Interestingly, he doesn't mention anything about the slotted bolt that holds the spring having to be in a particular orientation. Thanks for pointing that out. Also, as with your car, on mine the passenger side has a sleeved bar between the hinges, but the driver side does not.
